OUCH!!!

Yeah, that was the first word coming out of my mouth when I sprained my ankle while playing badminton last Wednesday. It was a bad bad day. Started with work that needed to be done by the end of the working hour, a trip to the post office to get the rebate that made me late coming back to the office (and the boss throwing a disapproving glance my way as I made my way to my desk); which in turn resulted in me not having enough time to properly warm up for the badminton session. I decided (foolishly, now with benefit of hindsight) to just go for my badminton session without a warm up session cause I was just too eager to play after missing a couple of sessions due to work commitment. What a big big mistake. All was well for the first half an hour, but when I decided on a last game after sitting down for too long, as written in fate I was down like a "nangka busuk" after I awkwardly landed on my right foot with a bad angle of the ankle.
As I was on sitting on the court, the pain just overwhelmed me and I think the adrenalin rush gave me a high. Everything looks blurry, the pain was throbbing, I could not breath properly, felt like the blood is rushing everywhere and yet nowhere. The people who played with me was asking if I was alright and told me to take off my shoes and told me to apply some heating oitment. One kakak was rubbing the oitment and massaging my feet and ankle, boy that was brutal, my instinct was to kick her away! But I just bit my lips and endured. As they moved me to the bench, I was still high. The pain was still there but it felt more like a gentle throbbing. They asked me if I was able to drive my car home. After like 10 minutes, I kinda felt the pain is subsiding (but later I would find out I was tricked by my body to think that) and thus I told them that I felt ok and that I am confident I would be able to drive the car home. At that time, I was still able to put some weight and pressure on the foot.
Arrived home to hear my mak being concerned and nagging me for being careless. I put ice on the swollen area. Rested for a while and took a shower. Rub some more heat rub and compressed the ankle with bandage. Elevated my foot while I slept. RICE. Woke up the next morning, put my feet on the floor to go take my shower and instant shooting pain up to my knee and I was screaming through gritted teeth. I had to shuffle, painfully and put all my weight on my left leg (which caused the left leg to cramp up) and head to the shower knowing that I have to shower because I have to go see the doctor without delay. It took me like nearly an hour in the shower manouvering and using the toilet seat as resting stool when my left leg cannot take the weight anymore. Called to office to tell my sob story and asking my mak to take me to the government clinic nearby.
My mak, who has not driven in like 7 years ( I am her driver nowadays), had to reacquint with her driving skills and slowly we made our way to the clinic. Saw the doctor, was told to get an X ray (which was only available at 2 pm) and to go back and see him after the X ray. We decided to go home first and go to the clinic again at 2pm as it was only 9.30 at that time. But I asked my mak to detour to my office so that I could make sure that any pending jobs will be taken over by someone. And before we head home, I asked my mak to go to the nearest pharmacy to get me a cane. Walking is slow and painful without some sort of support.
Came back at 2pm for the X ray. The X ray itself was pretty agonizing since I have to make sure my foot does not move as the X ray was taken. Believe me, when you have a swollen ankle, putting them at an angle and keeping them still is torture. Went to see the doc and he said the bones are ok, so it is only the tendons that is making me feel pain like hell. Got three days MC. Rest most of the time during that period. Felt better and more confident of putting pressure on my foot today and so here I am back at work. The driving was ok but the task of going up the flight of stairs was irritatingly slow. Thank goodness I have the cane, my superb mak and caring colleagues. :)

Little White Lies

I was listening to Mix fm this morning and the topic was, have you lied to your loved ones the real price of the stuff you bought. I always find some of the topics discussed on radio to be very interesting and if not for the fact that calling the station means redialling a million times and still can't get through, I would have called the station up and have my say. I digress..

Anyway, the answer to the question above is a big big YES!! For every person, there are things that they would think twice before buying and then there are stuff that they just have to get no matter what. This usually correlates with their interests. Boys in general loves sport stuff anf gadgets. Girls love clothes and shoes. Ok, girls loves a lot of stuff. Hahahaha. We would be buying everything if we can get a rich man to love us and make enough money for us to spend every minute of the day.

Me, my current interest in badminton stuff, in particular, badminton shoes. I have set aside RM50 for a few months just to buy a new racket. And I try not to let my mak sees the new racket. Or if I can't hide it, I lie about the price. Haha. If she knows how much I have spent on badminton stuff, she would bite my head off. According to her I should spend more money on clothes. And I should buy a new car so that I can take her to KL to visit her grandchildren safely and in comfort (my current car is a 16 years old charade aura with hard brakes and tink tink sounds everywhere) though that would surely take like years and years of setting aside RM50...hahahahaha :P So, anyway, my current object of desire is a new badminton shoes. Asics Gel Tactic or Mizuno badminton shoes though Mizunos are hard to find. I have not found Asics in Ipoh yet but people are telling me that I could find them in Yik Foong so maybe I will go take a look around one of these days. Hopefully when I have the money because I just hate seeing something I like and having to wait to get it in my hands.

This is the Women's version. I kinda like the color.

This one is for men but I love the colour scheme.

This one is just too tacky. hahahaha.

Meet Coachie

Meet my badminton pal, Coachie (yeah i know he sounds like a favourite snack that usually involves spitting saliva covered shells). He hangs around (literally!) with me when I go for my badminton session. Though he looks like he would prefer to be fishing somewhere, he really loves to hang around in the badminton hall with me. The reason why there is a new post entirely dedicated to Coachie is because of this :

He now has a protruding right eye! *o*

I believe he was in some sort of disagreement with some of the other hangies (like groupies but they are mainly hang ons....after all he hangs on to my badminton bag all his life with the others) or maybe a bump with a racket or something. His beautiful big black eyes that can see my soul are now weird looking but he is still a dear to me. I dont know if the eye can be fixed but I have decided to love him just the way he is. Protruding eye and all. He is after all my Coachie. The one who silently (if there were any noise, I would be screaming already) supports me when I am playing and the one who just hangs around and let me be. Bad badminton and all. Hahahaha. Plus, his coolness factor rubs on me too. Though now with the protruding eye, maybe the coolness level have dropped a bit or maybe gone up a notch, depending on how people rate coolness. :D

Anyway, here is Coachie and his protruding eye saying....here's looking at you kid. :)

The Thomas Cup and Uber Cup

Our Uber Cuppers did well. We reached quarter finals. I was satisfied with their efforts. :) Maybe when we can find more talented new players, we can mount a serious challenge. China is so lucky in a sense that they have a huge pool of talent to pick from.

Thomas Cup was so near yet so far. Yes, I was disappointed but I think most of our players did their best and if Hafiz were able to move up a gear and not look like there's no more hope on court and be more aggresive, we might have reached the finals. Koo Kien Keat/ Tan Boon Heong looked like thay have lost the magic. They did try though and I applaud that. But maybe they can't play together anymore. Or shouldn't play together anymore if they can't get over their differences on court and play together and support each other. I did not put much hope on Wong Choon Hann but I was still hoping against hope that he could beat Bao Chun Lai and set the standard for the next doubles to emulate. Thankfully the next doubles did not need any as they won their game. But by that time I was weary of the fact that we have to bank on hafiz to clinch a place in the finals. Truthfully, I was already thinking that we could try again next time even before hafiz took to the court. And sadly that thought was proved right by a meek hafiz that did not show any fight and made so many mistakes. If it was the pressure, he was there before and should have been prepared. But alas, another bad showing was all he was capable of. I was sad that so much talent came to nought.

Well...next time maybe we'll take the trophy home. It will be on our owm homeground and I am already planning to be there. :)

This is after all the week of TC/UC

I was so suprised and pleasantly so that our UC team beat Japan yesterday. Maybe this team can pull off a miracle after all. Now what we need is for the TC team to do the ultimate and win it. That would be like sooooooooooooooo awesome!!!

I DEDICATE THIS SONG TO OUR TC/UC TEAM.

Don't Stop Me Now - Queen

Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive
And the world,
I'll turn it inside out yeah
I'm floating around in ecstasy
So don't stop me now
Don't stop me'cause
I'm having a good time
Having a good time
I'm a shooting star leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go go go there's no stopping me
I'm burning through the sky yea
Two hundred degrees that's why they call me Mr. Fahrenheit
I'm travelling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
Don't stop me now
I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time
Just give me a call
Don't stop me now'cause I'm having a good time
Don't stop me now
Yes I'm having a good time
I don't wanna stop at all
I'm a rocket ship on my way to Mars
On a collision course
I am a satellite
I'm out of control
I'm a sex machine ready to reload
Like an atom bomb about to oh oh oh oh oh explode!
I'm burning through the sky yeah
Two hundred degrees that's why they call me Mr. Fahrenheit
I'm travelling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic woman of you
Don't stop me don't stop me, don't stop me hey hey hey!
Don't stop me don't stop me ooh ooh ooh
I like it
Don't stop me don't stop me
Have a good time good time
Don't stop me don't stop meohhhhhhh!
(guitar solo)
ohhhhhhh
I'm burning through the sky yeah
Two hundred degrees that's why they call me Mr. Fahrenheit
I'm travelling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
Don't stop me now I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time(all right)

Thomas Cup is here and...........

it is getting hotter and hotter. They were saying bad things about Korea's intentional match throwing. Which I think is pretty much the same as China match throwing between teammates. I guess they simply think of it as strategy. Win by any means. However, the fans will be shortchange. Sad really but that's the reality of badminton today. I think back in the 80s we would not realize there was any match fixing but nowadays teams are not shy at all to use it as strategy. :(

The third post today to fulfil the odd posts rule..hahaha

As I scratch my head to think up a topic, suddenly badminton pops up in my mind. Thomas Cup/Uber Cup is around the corner. I hope the Malaysian contigent will do well. The very least, I am hoping for a semi final appearance though really anything short of a final would be disappointing.

Anyway, I want to share a picture of my badminton gear. :D
